Celebrating Wear Red Day 2015

Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans? In fact, someone dies from CVD every 39 seconds! Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects.

Heart Awareness Month at The Social Firm

To kick off Heart Awareness Month, The Social Firm is wearing red today to support the American Heart Association and our Office Manager, Jenni, along with her husband Jessie. Their oldest son, Austin, was born with Aortic Stenosis and underwent heart surgery when he was a month old. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada and had gone for a routine one month checkup. When listening to Austin’s heart, the doctor heard an abnormality. After many hours of tests and meeting with a cardiologist, they were rushed to San Diego Children’s Hospital for an extensive lifesaving surgery. Since then, they have moved back home to central Ohio and Austin has become part of a study at Columbus Children’s Hospital and has helped many medical students learn what to look and listen for.

Two years ago, the American Heart Association named Austin and his family a “Heart Hero Family.” Their story was shared throughout the community and they were recognized on stage at the Columbus Heart Walk in August.

“Our dream of giving back to the community that helped save Austin’s life finally came true in such a big way.  By fundraising and joining the heart walk, we were able to join together with more than a million people in cities across America, in taking a stand against heart disease and helping to save lives,” said Jenni.
