Coffee shops are places people go when they need to get work done. While you’re there you can also grab a bite to eat and a (much-needed) cup of coffee. Smart coffee shops provide WiFi to their customers. These are generally the coffee shops that you have trouble finding a place to sit. You would be silly to not understand and provide for the basic needs of your customers. Right?
WiFi is a SUPER important tool to provide coffee-shoppers… Here’s why.
It will keep customers on the premises longer.
I don’t know about you, but if I’m at Panera doing work on my laptop and the internet stops working, I’m out. Unless I simply don’t have anywhere else to go, I will not spend my time asking a manager to fix the WiFi. After all, managers are busy people and many of them are not WiFi experts. If coffee shops provide reliable WiFi to customers, they will stay at the shop longer — which (likely) means more money for said coffee shop.
It will attract new customers.
This is especially true for out-of-towners that aren’t familiar with the area. When people travel for business or for pleasure, their hotel may not provide free internet. A “Free WiFi” sign outside could trigger them into a coffee shop so that they don’t go over their GB limit for the month.
It will allow for a better reputation.
I know a lot of people love Panera because they provide free WiFi at all locations (and amazing food). It takes more than just good food to have a good reputation. You need to provide great customer service as well, and giving your customers access to free WiFi is a good way to start.
